The concept for World Ocean Day was first proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, and has been celebrated unofficially every year since.

Three years ago, COARE teamed up with a few other Bay Area organizations to create a series of local events to celebrate World Ocean Day, and we’re thrilled to continue that tradition.

This past December, the United Nations made it official, and June 8th is now officially known as World Oceans Day.

Join us for our third year and for the inaugural celebration of the newest holiday recognizing the oceans that cover nearly 3/4 of our planet.

Come to Periscope Cellars in Emeryville on Saturday, June 6th from 6-9pm, and enjoy food & drink, live music, and a special screening of the film Sharkwater.
