May Gallery Artist: D. Dasari

Dheeraj Dasari (known to many as ‘d’) has been drawing and painting since childhood. But it wasn’t until he moved to San Francisco in ‘99 that it became his passion. The Bay Area’s street art scene amazed, dazzled, and catalyzed him–leaving him with no choice but to participate.

d left behind the detailed drawings and realistic paintings of his past. He simplified his designs to create a style that could live on the streets of San Francisco. Often using only one or two colors to create his pieces, d expresses the true essence and beauty of the world around him by abstracting images into the most simple rendering possible.

Using spraypaint and stencils as his primary tools, d’s work spread all over Bay Area streets, then found its way onto t-shirts and websites. Eventually, it ended up in art galleries.

In the last few years, d has reinvented his style yet again. This new exhibit showcases his newest vision–an expression that stays true to his street sensibilities, but conveys new depth and renewed energy.
